insurance 1The type of car you drive will also affect the rates you get. It almost goes without saying that a less expensive vehicle does not cost as much to insure as, say, a sports car or a brand new SUV.

Your credit rating is a big deal as well. Do what you can to keep it high — pay your bills on time, do not go into default, et cetera. By doing so, you can get lower rates.

Obey the law. Driving violations can make your car insurance rate go up into the stratosphere. There are some companies, in fact, that will keep a black mark on your record for at least five years — and that can get really expensive.

There are things you can do for yourself to keep your rates down. Just learn what they are and do your best.

insurance 7Sometimes, you have to do more than just comparison shop to find a good deal on car insurance rates. Every driver I know has, at one time or another, complained and moaned about their rates and premiums. That is natural, but after you get done venting, why not get out there and change what you can, so you can get a better deal? Because at the end of the day, only you are responsible for what you pay.

For instance, people who are married pay less than people who are single — so go tie the knot already!

Where you live can make a huge difference as well. Now, it might not be worth it to move, but if you do have to relocate at some point, do some research. If you can choose a low traffic area over a congested and/or high risk area, go for it — you’ll pay less.

Lost baggage is another problem with both flights and trains. Whether your baggage is simply lost or whether something important, like medicine, is lost with it, travel insurance can help.

If you are driving this holiday season and get in an accident, or if you get hurt or sick at your ultimate destination, this type of insurance can help with medical emergencies and expenses as well.

Clearly, travel insurance can really come in handy this holiday season, so you would do well to research it.
